Sam Huang

Sam Huang is well-known in Riverside for his extensive involvement in any number of different civic activities. He is Professor Emeritus of Biology & Health Science at the Riverside Community College and is also a noted artist and tap dancer. This photo was taken in his studio, Studio 3D, in downtown Riverside, where he spends time every day working on art projects. Sam has been involved with the Coalition for Common Ground, a local non-profit community group dedicated to fostering better ethnic relations in Riverside. He has been recognized with the Sumi Harada Service Award from UCR's Asian Pacific Student Programs (2002) and with the Martin Luther King Award from the Martin Luther King Visionary group of Riverside (1996). Sam was born in mainland China and witnessed the rape of Nanking as a child. He says that that experience led to his keen sense of social responsibility and justice. Take a look at his bio on the Riverside Arts Council website.
